We at the ACMRL warmly invite you to the annual Sarah van Walsum lecture on 27 September 2024, at 16:00. The lecture, entitled “Work in a Hard Place: Migrant Care Workers’ Life in Transnational Households” will be given by Helma Lutz.

Prof. Dr. Helma Lutz is an eminent sociologist whose research career began in 1985 at the University of Amsterdam, where she obtained her PhD. Her research focuses on migration, gender and ethnicity from a critical feminist and intersectional perspective. Helma has held positions at several prestigious institutions, including Goethe University Frankfurt, where she was Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies.

This event serves as the annual opening of the Master’s program in International Migration and Refugee Law and commemorates our late colleague Sarah van Walsum. This lecture is always delivered by someone who knew Sarah and covers a topic she would have found fascinating. Last year’s lecture by Juan M. Amaya-Castro was highly appreciated and well-attended. You can watch his lecture again, here.

We hope to see you there!
