Liberty Chee is a Filipino migration scholar in Europe. She is currently a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Liberty is trained in international relations, although her research draws from feminist political economy, political theory, and migration studies. Her current project is KnowingDOM – ‘Law, Economy and Seeing Woman’s Work: Knowledge Production and the ILO’s Domestic Workers Convention in Global Migration Governance.’ This new research will investigate how various actors engage the International Labor Organization in making knowledge claims about domestic work and how the ILO’s norm-setting activities disseminate to and from the European Union. She approaches these processes from the sociality of knowledge production in feminist science studies. While in Amsterdam, she will be investigating the social forces which made the Amsterdam 2006 Conference ‘Respect and rights – Protection for domestic workers’ possible, and how these forces may have coalesced to launch the campaign for the ILO Convention on Domestic Work.
